Prof Quazi Monirul Islam is the Senior Specialist (Health System) at the Centre for Maternal and Newborn Health, Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. He joined the Centre in February 2017 and is responsible for coordinating a Global Fund-supported programme: Quality Improvement of Integrated HIV, TB and Malaria services in ANC and PNC facilities in several countries in Africa and Asia. He retired as WHO Country Representative to Namibia in January 2017.

He is a public health specialist with extensive experience in Health System, disease outbreaks, communicable disease, PHC programmes, Maternal and Child Health, and Sexual and Reproductive Health. He qualified from Dhaka University, Bangladesh and received a Masters in Public Health (MPH) from Amsterdam University and the Royal Tropical Institute in the Netherlands. He was awarded FRCOG by the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, UK; Fellowship from the Canadian Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics and Indian College of Gynaecology and Obstetrics. He is a Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of Prince Songkla University, Thailand. Prof Islam teaches at Tokyo University, Japan; Uppsala University, Sweden; Brescia University, Italy; Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and London School of Hygiene: Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, Switzerland; Royal Tropical Institute, Netherland and at Prince Songkla University, Thailand. He supervises PhD students and is a PhD examiner at Price Songkla University.

He is Chairman of the Board of Virometix, Chairman of the Board of Theradiag, Chairman of the Board of Eurocine Vaccines, as well as Non-Executive Director to the Boards of Vaccitech, of Univercells and of CanSino Biologics. Pierre has over 30 years of experience in the global life science industry, especially with specialty care, vaccines and immunotherapy, at the helm of international operations, in C-level positions at global level in multinational corporations and as CEO of start-up companies. He is a lecturer in several MBA programs and in life science conferences, and at the Mass Challenge incubator in Switzerland where he is also a mentor for start-up life sciences companies. He holds a Doctorate of Pharmacy, a Master in Business Law and a MBA. He is also an alumnus of INSEAD and IMD.

 Professor Ghassan M. Matar has completed his PhD at the Dept. of Microbiology & Immunology, Faculty of Medicine (FM) American University of Beirut (AUB) and his post doctoral fellowship at the Center for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC) and EMORY University. He is currently Chairperson of the Dept. of Experimental Pathology, Imunology and Microbiology, Director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Reference and Research on Bacterial Pathogens and Associate Director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research (CIDR). He also serves as Resource advisor on WHO-AGISAR, member of the Global Task Force on Cholera Control (GTFCC) and Focal Point of PulseNet International in Lebanon. Professor Matar’s main research interest deals with investigating molecular mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance and combatting it by combination therapeutic options and beta-lactamase inhibitors. He published an extensive number of articles in reputable refereed international journals, 2 e-books in Frontiers in Microbiology and 1 book in ELSEVIER. He is on the editorial board on reputable International Journals. He has been an invited speaker to numerous international, regional and local conferences.

Ahmed Hegazi is currently a Professor of Microbiology and Immunology in the National Research Center, Egypt. He received his Master’s degree in 1979 and his PhD in 1981. His research work has been focused lately on bee products and their therapeutic effects. He organized and contributed to national and international research projects since 1977 and up till now; he has been the Principal Investigator on multiple research projects within the National Research Center. He has published 207 scientific papers and articles in national and international journals. He is also the President of the Egyptian Environmental Society for Uses and Production of Bee Products, Secretary of the Egyptian Society of Apitherapy, Secretary General of the African Federation of Apiculture Associations and a Member of the International Apitherapy Commission (APIMONDIA). He also received many awards.
